Why I'm a New Fan of Jennifer Lawrence (Katniss Everdeen) – Hunger Games news

Saturday, March 3rd, 2012

I read this article quoting a Glamour magazine feature on actress Jennifer Lawrence, and I’ve decided even though I haven’t seen her act yet, I like her already.  Put me in the fan club!  Here’s the quote that got me (although I liked the whole thing):

“…But unlike a lot of other Hollywood actresses who fret about their weight, Lawrence has no eater’s remorse. In fact, she doesn’t even diet, and exercising is more of a chore and just part of her job description rather than a passion. “I hate saying, ‘I like exercising,’” she tells Glamour. “I want to punch people who say that in the face.”

Hollah J. Law!  And you know…maybe if you did start punching people in the face when they said that, they’d stop saying it.  Hmmmm.  [Totally kidding!  Please, no one punch anyone in the face for saying they like to exercise!]

I love reviews like this – so very inspiring!

Friday, March 2nd, 2012

When I write and write and write, and occasionally check Amazon or Goodreads for a new review (which I admittedly do way too often … as a new writer, I am pretty much starved for reader affection), it’s such a joy to click on on one of my book pages and find a new review like this one.  It makes me want to jump right back into my writing and keep tippy tapping away at those keys, weaving stories and having new characters jump out of the ether to introduce themselves to me.

Thank you to all of my readers who have left me such inspiring messages about my work.  If I ever meet you in person you will be getting a huge hug!

War of the Fae: Series update

Tuesday, February 28th, 2012

Hello readers – just a quick update here on the War of the Fae series of books.  As you know from my previous posts, Book 1: The Changelings is now exclusively available on  Amazon.com.  I took it off Barnes and Noble’s website so I could participate in the KDP Select program at Amazon which requires exclusivity.

Book 2: Call to Arms is in final editing, and I hope to have it back this weekend, which means a publish date of March 5th.  Yay!  I’ve gotten lots of great feedback on this installment from my beta readers, so I hope you all will like it as much as they did.

Book 3: Darkness & Light is at the 80k words mark, which means it’s nearly done.  I will have the first draft finished this weekend, fingers crossed – but at the latest by March 6th.  Then it goes into editing, so you can expect a publish date of around March 27th for that installment.

Book 4: New Word Order hasn’t officially been started yet, other than a very rough outline (and when I say ‘rough’ I mean it’s two paragraphs of jumbled nonsense).  My goal is to go from jumbled nonsense to finished product by the end of April.  When a book is part of a series like this, and particularly when it’s the last book, it’s a faster process to write it out.  Most of the characters are already fleshed out in the earlier installments and the conflicts are coming to an end.  My goal is to have everything done before everyone breaks for summer – that way my fans have a whole series to enjoy over their vacations!  :)

Thanks to everyone who’s emailed, tweeted, facebooked, reviewed, rated, or otherwise sent me their thoughts and feedback.  I appreciate each and every one of you!

Moving to Amazon exclusively

Sunday, February 26th, 2012

I have made the decision to try out Amazon.com’s KDP Select program, which means that I have to make my books exclusive to Amazon.com for 90 days.  So they have been removed from Smashwords.com and BarnesandNoble.com.  I’m super sorry for any inconvenience this causes anyone, but I wasn’t getting much in the way of sales from these venues and KDP Select looks like it might be interesting.

FYI, if you don’t own a Kindle, you can download the free Kindle software to your computer, your smart phone, your tablet, etc.

War of the Fae: series update

Saturday, February 18th, 2012

Hey readers!  Just a quick update on the progress with the War of the Fae series.

Book 2, Call to Arms is in the last week of editing, hopefully (okay, so maybe 10 days), so I see a publishing date of March 5th, which would be about a week before my previous estimate, so I’m happy about that.

Book 3, Darkness & Light, is started now.  I have 28,400 words in the first draft so far.  In this series my word count tends to be in the 85k-90k word range, so I guess that makes me nearly 1/3 done.  Yay me!

I’ve gotten a couple of ‘official’ reviews on Amazon for Book 1, The Changelings, and they’ve both been very complimentary 5-stars, so I’m super psyched.  These are from readers I don’t know.  I’ve also had lots of unofficial reviews from editors, friends, and family who also seem to really like it.  I have high hopes for this series.  I hope my readers love the characters as much as I do.

So that’s the latest.  Thanks for reading.  To check out the Amazon reviews for The Changelings, click here.

Samantha Young…Totally Inspiring!

Friday, February 17th, 2012

I read this post today from indie author Samantha Young, an author whose work I have read and enjoyed immensely (and it doesn’t hurt that she’s a really nice person too!).  I was soooo inspired after reading it!  She went from starving student to successful independetly published author in a year. Yay Samantha!  If you’re seeking some inspiration as an author, I suggest you check it out.

First review for The Changelings is in – 5 Stars!

Tuesday, February 14th, 2012

I published The Changelings a week ago in a quiet launch, meaning I told no one it was coming on that date.  I had scheduled the publishing date for February 11th and it went up February 5th.  I had a few books purchased anyway, no doubt as a result of the promotion for Wrecked which was published on January 2nd.

I received my first review on Amazon.com today from a reader I don’t know – meaning she’s not a book blogger or someone who I’ve asked to read the book.  I’m very happy to say it’s a 5-Star!  I can’t re-print it here, since I don’t have permission to do that, but you can read it yourself by clicking HERE.

Thank you readers, for taking the time to read and review.  You rock!

War of the Fae series news

Monday, February 13th, 2012

Hello dear readers.  Just a quick note on the War of the Fae series and what’s going on with it.

I recently published War of the Fae: Book 1 on Amazon.com without doing any promotion.  I have the book with an editor from a big publishing house who is doing a read and response on it, so there may be a second version with some minor changes – but the book was copy edited and drafted out several times, so I wanted to get it out there.  I’m very happy with it and the initial response I’ve gotten from readers is that they LOVE it, so I’m super psyched.  I’ve sold a few copies but do not yet have any reviews, other than what has been emailed to me personally.

Book Two is done as well, but in the middle of some copy editing.  No matter how hard I try, I still can’t find all of my own errors.  And then there’s that bad habit of ‘telling not showing’ that sometimes rears its ugly head in my writing, so I have someone searching the draft for those things.  I have March 11 as the publish date on Book 2, but I’m pretty sure it will be out before then – in February, in the next couple weeks.

Book Three is being drafted right now.  I’m fast with my drafts, so even though it says April 11 as the publish date, I’m quite sure this one will also be out much sooner than that.

So that’s the newest of the news.  I’m very excited about everything and pleased at the feedback I’ve been getting, and nothing makes writing easier than having fans saying, “Hurry up!  I want to read more!”
